HUMOUR project

This comic strip, created by Daniel and Robert, is a reference to the
extinction of dinosaurs and the Biblical character Noah. This comic
strip is about Noah’s ark and how Noah loaded all the animals onto his
ship. Our comic strip suggests that Noah did not load the dinosaurs
onto the ark because the dinosaurs did not add him on Facebook.
It was very hard to think of something funny that wasn’t slap stick.
Many times we thought of funny jokes, but they all involved
inappropriate humour or somebody getting hurt/insulted. We decided
that our project needs to be smart with lots of ideas that can make
people think of these events and giggle a little. We chose to do this
comic strip because it relates to historical, religious and current
events in a very clever fashion. It was very hard to decide on the
topic and how we were going to produce something that is in the
category of Comedy of Ideas.
Our comic is a comedy of ideas. In order to understand the joke you
need to be familiar with endeavors of Noah and fact that dinosaurs are
extinct. This comic strip makes you think, thinking is usually
associated with ideas…therefore our comic strip s a comedy of ideas.
The main idea we are trying to instill into the reader is that certain
historical and biblical events do not match up. We are mocking the
fact that Noah was supposed to save all the animals but he did not
save the poor dinosaurs simply because they did not have him on
Facebook. The comic is very ironic because the whole race of Dinosaurs
all extinct simply because of a Facebook request. Perhaps this is a
metaphor for what happens if you do not have Facebook today: you are
not able to express your ideas easily or communicate with others
effortlessly…if you do not have you will be left behind and your ideas
will be outdated.

Humour Book Write up

We have all heard Bedtime Stories like Snow White, Cinderella, Three little pigs, etc but have you heard the corrected version of these short stories? My book “Politically Correct Bedtime Story” is a book with a collection of short stories and lots of humour. The humour in this book can fall in the category of comedy of ideas. The politically corrected version “The Little Red Riding Hood” in the book is very satirical.

The little red riding hood in most people's mind is a little girl who is on her way to see her sick grandmother but instead of seeing her grandmother, she saw a wolf.  In the end an axe man shows up and slays the wolf. However, this version of the story is wrongly written full of sexism and lots of lies to set moral examples for little children. The politically corrected version is almost completely reversed.  The sick grandmother in the book is actually healthy, and little red riding hood is just a very brave and kind girl who shows no fear of the forest. When the big bad wolf asks her “You know, my dear, it isn’t safe for a little girl to walk through these woods alone.” She replied with “I find your sexist remark offensive in the extreme.” This shows that the author is mocking the traditional example of sexism that is set in the children mind in the early ages. In the end, the wolf, the axe man, and little red riding hood “Decided to set up an alternative household based on mutual respect and cooperation, and they lived together in the woods happily ever after.”

The politically corrected version of the bedtime stories is very satirical with good examples of morality and lessons on equality. These corrected stories should be the stories we hear as children not some non-thoughtful stories trying to set wrong examples that would affect us in later life.

I think this book is very funny because it uses ideas to mock inequality in our society in the forms of corrected versions of bedtime stories we hear as children.
